To create a model for day school learning that will focus on developing a holistic education for the 21st century graduate, we want to address the manner that different types of learning models function in a Jewish student's education.
This project will explore the areas:
How do we understand what learning looks like outside of a formal framework? Is formal learning defined by the context (classroom, school, etc.) or by a process of learning? How does formal learning function differently than non-formal and informal learning? What are the benefits for non-formal learning?
What is the role of non-formal learning in a Jewish educational framework? How does non-formal learning function in a Jewish Day School? Do the benefits of non-formal learning as seen in non-school settings (camps, youth groups, Israel trips, etc.) apply to a day school setting?
How can Milken community high school benefit from establishing a vision for its non-formal educational work? What professional development will be needed to develop a faculty orientated around effective non-formal learning? What collaborative model would allow for effective leadership and reorganization around programming?
